Domaine d'Espérance

The perfect style

The Armagnac itself is a lifestyle; its tasting has to respect etiquette and savoir-vivre, dear to Claire de Montesquiou. Carrying the legacy of a family since long established in Gascony—Henry IV already came to enjoy the family's nectars!—she marks with refinement one of the best Armagnacs of the region, at Domaine d'Espérance.

Claire de Montesquiou has a passion for her profession, her grapes, and her wines. Her pleasure and pride are to create her cuvees and her Armagnacs with the fruits of her own production. The domain had been left in disuse until she and her husband took over this treasure of the Grand Bas-Armagnac in 1990 and gave it back its former lustre.

The 30-hectare vineyard is settled on tawny sands—clayey and sandy soils—who give the domain's wines their fruity notes. A quarter of the surface area is dedicated to distillation. The team practices “reasonable” farming, limiting the inputs to the very minimum. Baco, Folle Blanche, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Gros Manseng... but also Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc contribute to provide a wide range of flavours to the house's creations.
Claire de Montesquiou's main love is Armagnac. By carefully selecting her grapes, with continuous distilling at a low degree, she produces brandies that keep all the aromas of the wine. The house offers 5 and 10 years old spirits as well as vintages of which the oldest are much appreciated in Russia. Part of the labels is drawn by her friend designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. These nectars are of the kind that has to be tasted plain, taking one's time, after a dinner, warming up the glass in one's hand.

Now the Armagnacs of d'Espérance are served worldwide. And are recognized as exceptional products as evidenced by the numerous gold and silver medals won over the years. The house's range is complemented with Flocs de Gascogne and the white, red and rosé wines of the estate with fruitiness and a round, supple palate.
To Claire de Montesquiou, Armagnac has to be experienced in the literal sense of the word spirit, like the soul of a wine, a journey of the mind, the expectation of the delicacy and elegance of the elixirs who still lay in the cellar.
