Located at the far northwestern edge of the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Grand Corbin embodies the elegance of the Grands Crus Classés. Its contiguous 37-hectare vineyard, with 28.5 hectares classified, rests on singular soils. The presence of blue clays mixed with ferruginous clay silicas provides an exceptional geological richness. This terroir shapes wines of great character, showcasing the essence of Merlot, the region’s emblematic grape variety, which dominates 80% of the estate’s parcels.
Environmental stewardship is at the heart of Grand Corbin’s practices. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE3) since 2018, the estate cultivates its vines with eco-responsible rigor. Every step, from harvest to cellar, aims to preserve the full potential of this unique terroir. Additionally, the north-facing slopes of the estate, once considered a disadvantage, have become an asset in the face of climate change. The grapes ripen slowly, preserving their freshness and vibrancy.
In 2022, a year after Laure Canu’s arrival as general manager, the estate took a new step with the addition of Axel Marchal, a consulting oenologist and professor of oenology at the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences. “A great wine should be a faithful reflection of a place. Our work at Grand Corbin will focus on achieving greater precision to respect the soil types and best express the identities of this remarkable terroir, rooted in its appellation”, says Axel Marchal.
With his expertise, Château Grand Corbin continues to pursue its ambition: to reveal the soul of its terroir with precision and craft refined wines, marked by silky tannins and a distinctive identity.
