The Château de Gilly, charming hotel at the heart of Burgundy, located just a few steps aways from the famous Clos Vougeot, in the middle the Grand Crus of Burgundy, welcomed SommelierS International's new tasting dedicated to Burgundy wines.
About twenty sommeliers came for this lovely day to meet over some hundred remarkable cuvées, representative of the Burgundy terroirs. The tasting took place in the Dom Gobelez room where president Michel Smolarek and the members of the Association des Sommeliers de Bourgogne could exchange their impressions and appreciate the wines at their disposal. So, 41 wine growers presented their flagship cuvées. Beaune, Bourgogne, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges or Gevrey-Chambertin, a large selection where submitted to the demanding palates of the professionals, delighted with these beautiful discoveries. The tasting ended with a note of Armagnac with Armagnac Dartigalongue & Fils.
Climax of its stay in Burgundy where he met the wine growers, Nelson Chow also joined the event, and expressed again the interest that China and Hong Kong have for the French vineyards. For the latter, Burgundy wines are all the more interesting that it is possible to get very good wines with a good ageing potential but which can be also drunk from now on.
The tasting then continued with a conference, hosted by Bernard Hudelot, owner of the Château de Villars Fontaine, about wine, nutrition and health. He stated the antioxidant power of the tannins present in the wine, necessary elements for our daily food.
Also present, Pierre Videau of Diam Bouchage, partner of the tasting, could once again exchange with the wine growers about the Diam range, the only cork which, through its mechanical and organoleptic performances, assures a quality corking and the sensory neutrality of the wines.
Wine growers, sommeliers and cellar owners then met in the Tapisseries room over a buffet of cold and hot appetizers and sweet bouchées that delighted the guests' palate.
The wines tasted in the morning were again shared in a friendly spirit and everyone left the event with a smile on his face.
