Château Cantemerle asserts its style

04/06/2024

In 2021, Laure Canu became the general manager of Château Cantemerle, a 5th Grand Cru Classé in 1855 from Haut-Médoc, where she brings her expertise and dynamism.

The objective now? To prove, beyond the attraction of good value for money, that a real qualitative approach, based on precision, has taken place since 2022 on this 98-hectare vineyard. This is evidenced by the 2023 vintage, where unprecedented selection work led to retaining only the finest cabernet sauvignons, in historically high proportions: 75% of the blend (+15% merlot, 6% petit verdot, and 4% cabernet franc). This signature grape gives Cantemerle its structure and style. The historic decision to incorporate 14% press wine brings unparalleled complexity, while revealing remarkably fine and smooth tannins. With only 35% new barrels, the aim is to preserve the purity of the fruit and establish a harmonious balance. The aromatic explosion followed by a long finish attests to the care taken at each stage of its production.

To reinforce its style, Château Cantemerle plans, by 2025, new technical installations, always serving the wines: a gravity-fed vat room allowing precise work, parcel by parcel, a new eco-responsible barrel cellar, buried to be as energy-efficient as possible, and a redesigned reception area, in an oenotouristic approach, where professionals and enthusiasts will be welcomed in new tasting spaces and a boutique. The 18th-century building has been completely renovated to include nine rooms and reception areas. Finally, the park, forest, and watercourses will be integrated into the program to promote the establishment of numerous plant and animal species.

A future more than promising!
