Domaine de la Guillardière

An extraordinary place

An atypical place in the foothills of the Beaujolais, extremely nice wine growers: Domaine de la Guillardière saves lovely surprises… in the glass but not only!

The domain is well-indicated. Fortunately! Otherwise you may wonder if you do not have the wrong address as a car of the last century is parked in the garden. And the closer you get the better you see the old car collection. The cellar of Domaine de la Guillardière looks like no other. The owners neither. Isabelle and Pascal Guillard not only are wine growers, they also are magicians. Certainly all wine makers are. But the latter, besides proposing a range of varied and quality wines, are able to lead us into other universes. They are driven by passion, greedy and hard-working. The cellar adjoining the old car museum that the visitors can discover is a huge room that sometimes turns into a theatre. There you can also get regional produce, like Isabelle's jam, home-made grape juice, goat's cheese, honeys and other local producers' delights.

La famille Guillard

Under the spell of the Brouilly…

Pascal tailors 14 cuvees. His father taught him the profession and obviously he passed on his enthusiasm. “He came to pick me up at school with a smile and I followed him in the vineyard and in the cellar", the wine grower confides with emotion.
“Our vines spread over 11 villages; we thus are on various soils: granite, clay and limestone, volcanic rocks… It takes longer for winemaking because we have to separate the plots, but it enables to make very different cuvees, he explains. We planted new varietals: Pinot, Merlot, Sauvignon, Viognier, Roussanne and Shiraz”. The Pinot and Merlot are already in bottles, some will be ready to be discovered next year. We are looking forward as the domain's generic Beaujolais and Burgundy are pleasurable wines; its sparkling wines are also so easy to drink! And delight is at its peak with the Brouilly.
Pleasure and elegance… the place is jolly, the owners warm and happiness is in the glass!Texte et photos: Sophie Senty
