Contest Mexico
The Sommelier Luis Antonio Morones Lopez was the winner of the National Sommelier Competition 2012 organized by ASM, the Mexican Sommeliers Association, held on 21 August in Mexico City.
During an intense day at the National Palace of University Autonomy, 15 sommeliers demonstrated their knowledge, professionalism and passion for the world of wine.
The winner, Luis Antonio Morones Lopez, got the title of Best Sommelier of Mexico ASM 2012 and will represent his country in October in the A.S.I. Contest of the Best Sommelier of the Americas 2012 in Brazil. He will thus participate in the national selection tests for the A.S.I. Contest of the Best Sommelier of the World 2013 to be organized in Japan next year.
Luis Antonio Morones Lopez is currently working as Sommelier at the Restaurant Au Pied de Cochon in Mexico City. He recently won the 1st place in the 2012 Ambassador of the Alsace Wines in Mexico contest.
It is noteworthy that Barbosa Omar Hernandez, Best Sommelier of Mexico 2011, will also attend the competition in Brazil and will participate in the selection of the Mexican representative for the Mondial 2013 in Tokyo.
The 2nd and 3rd places were respectively awarded to the sommeliers Fabian Martinez and Victor Giles Galaz.
Luis Cardenas Barona, President of the Mexican Sommeliers Association, stressed the importance of the enthusiastic participation in the contest for all candidates; and acknowledged the support and commitment of the jury composed of eminent personalities from the world of wine such as Sandra Fernandez, Hans Backoff, Tim Vollerslev, Claudio Poblete, and Andres Rosberg.
The National Sommelier Competition ASM 2012 had the support of APAS and A.S.I., who congregates all sommeliers associations in the world, with nearly 60 countries - among which Mexico, represented by ASM.
