the spectacular awake­ning of a sleeping beauty

Nestled in Fronsac and adjoining the adjacent valley, this property, whose origins date back to the late 15th century - with the earliest written records dating back to 1480 - owes its name of Plain Point to the Roman era, where this term was used to designate a summit.

Upon entering the park, one cannot help but be moved by this bucolic tangle of hills, trees, and rivers, beneath which lies a mosaic of blue clay soils, asteriated limestone, and Fronsadais molasse, on plots caressed by an oceanic climate that gives the wines all their freshness.

Purchased a decade ago by Shi Yuzhu, Château Plain Point could have remained this sleeping beauty of 30 hectares if the Chinese businessman had not had the noble ambition to make it a flagship of Bordeaux wines. Now totaling 100 hectares of vineyards, the property stands out for agricultural practices combining audacity, excellence, and precision, with a complete cessation of pesticides, significant investments in agropastoralism - with 350 Béarn sheep spending the winter in the vineyards - beekeeping, and draft horses, as well as the construction of a pharaonic cellar of 9,000 m2, which particularly impressed Raimond Tomsons during his visit. Thanks to the natural relief of the site, the building could be constructed on a hillside, offering a 15-meter gravitational slope.

2023 was a particularly foundational vintage for Plain Point, with its first vinification within this state-of-the-art facility. On the agenda, 200,000 bottles of grand wine predominantly Merlot, a small quantity of whites, and a second wine called M de Plain Point, which will be available in red, white, and rosé. In the cellar, wines that are eagerly awaiting to be unveiled to the world, “wines for ageing, powerful, typical of the Fronsac terroir, yet always endowed with freshness and elegance”, emphasizes Sandra Gallitre, communications manager. Tasted in preview by Raimond Tomsons, his tasting feedback bodes well for the future of this property, which is far from finished making headlines.
