Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020
Shaped by the Provencal sun and the violent Mistral wind, Domaine de la Solitude is situated in the Vallon de la Solitude, surrounded by 33 parcels of vines. The vineyard, organically farmed, covers 37 hectares of AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This complex natural heritage, combining safres and galets, forms a real mosaic of terroirs. The main grape varieties for red wines are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Counoise, and for white wines: Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc and Picpoul.
Cuvée Barberini Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 is a tribute to the Domaine's founding fathers. This cuvée is a parcel-by-parcel selection of old Grenache vines (65%) planted on the high Quaternary flood terraces surrounding the estate. These terraces are the cradle of the famous quartzite pebble and clay terroirs that give Cuvée Barberini its powerful tannins and aromas. The cuvée is complemented by 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah, aged 65% in barrels and demi-muids for 20 months and 40% in concrete tanks. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtration or fining.
Color: amethyst hue with mauve highlights. Clear and brilliant. Nose: fine, warm. Unveils aromas of black berries (blackberry, prune, cherry). Enhanced by spicy notes (gray pepper, liquorice). Palate: smooth, velvety, fresh, with fine tannins. Silky finish. Remarkable length. Pairing: black pork chop with morels. Comment: generous and delicate, this bottle is a real gem.
