On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Wine Paris exhibition hosted the semi-final of the Union de la Sommellerie Française's competition for the Best Young Sommelier of France. After rigorous challenges, Louis Le Conte (Beau Rivage Palace Lausanne), Augustin Belleville (Pavyllon Paris), and Noé Richard (Plénitude Paris) brilliantly secured their spots in the final!
Eighty-seven candidates from hospitality schools across France (Lyon, Grenoble, Strasbourg, La Rochelle, Marseille, Paris, Reims, Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Tours) competed in the last selection round on Monday, January 13. From there, seven advanced to the Wine Paris semi-final: Augustin Belleville, Maxence Caland, Aude Charrol, Yohan Delobel, Louis Le Conte, Alyzée Marchal, and Noé Richard.
Throughout the afternoon, the candidates were evaluated through a series of tests covering all aspects of the sommelier profession. Written exams assessed their knowledge of wine appellations, tools, and influential figures in the industry, along with translating wine terminology into English, label recognition, and correcting wine maps. Additionally, several practical workshops, including tasting, beverage menu creation, food and non-alcoholic pairing, and Coravin service, showcased their technical expertise and creativity.
All eyes are now on the final, where the three finalists will compete for the prestigious title, aiming to succeed Marie Wodecki, the last winner in 2023. Save the date for June 16, 2025, at La Cité du Vin in Bordeaux for the grand finale!
