O’Beri Spirit’s

17/01/2025
conquering the West

Launched in 2020, the brand Oberi, whose laboratory is located in Petit Bourg, Guadeloupe, has leveraged its proximity to the American continent to observe the growing interest in gin in the United States and Canada, where the spirit is experiencing a renaissance. The brand set out to master the knowledge and production techniques of gins, such as London Dry and Compound. Over the course of three years, the O'Beri distillery focused on crafting Caribbean gins, using raw materials from Guadeloupe and locally sourced botanicals that are freshly processed. The cane alcohol is derived from specific varieties of the French Antilles, with an emphasis on endemic botanicals like brisée, verbena, framboisin, ginger mint, and lime. This approach has paid off, as evidenced by the success these unique gins have found since their release, and the medals they received at the 12th Challenge for the Best French Wines, Spirits, and Beers for the USA 2024, organized by Cabwines.

Tasting review

Gin de canne

Silver medalist

Color: a light golden hue, stemming from its cane maceration.

Nose: a pronounced aromatic intensity, with a delicate blend of sugarcane, citrus, red fruits, and a surprising tangy note. Its distinctive character immediately invites you to taste it.

Palate: smooth and warm, with incredible flavors of delicately smoked cane that evoke the countryside during cane harvesting. Citrus notes (candied lemon and orange) balance its warmth, and the finish is long, leaving a gentle, sweet sensation reminiscent of distant cane juice.

Comment: a unique product with sugarcane flavors that remind us of the ancestral tastes of our beautiful island.

Caribbean Dry Gin

Gold medalist

Color: colorless, with regular legs and a lovely viscosity.

Nose: a pleasant freshness is noticeable right away, with aromas of candied citrus (lemon and kaffir lime) blending beautifully with juniper, accompanied by a hint of pepper and a delicate menthol note. This combination offers a complex aroma, reminiscent of the freshness of Creole gardens.

Palate: the alcohol is smooth and exceptionally well integrated. The freshness detected on the nose persists, with a slight tingling on the tongue from the pepper, while licorice mingles with the citrus, adding a rounded texture to the palate. A long finish unfolds with sweeter and slightly maritime notes.

Comment: a unique product with Creole flavors that evoke the gentle Caribbean sea breezes.
