By renaming its non-vintage Brut cuvée Royale Réserve to Réserve Perpétuelle, the Maison Philipponnat fulfills a dual purpose. First, to reflect the true nature of its blend and the way the Maison manages its reserve wines. Second, to embody its unwavering pursuit of progress, as expressed in its guiding motto: “In perpetual motion, by nature”.
Since 1946, the Maison has crafted its blends by combining wines from the new harvest with a portion of the previous year’s assemblage. This approach demands both precision and deep familiarity with each cru, as well as the foresight to anticipate future evolution. The reserve wine is managed in two complementary ways: part of it is used in the following year’s blend, while another portion is set aside for the Réserve Essentielle, which evolves at a slower pace. Both the Réserve Perpétuelle and Réserve Essentielle are matured in oak. These successive blends create a cumulative character, building texture and complexity while preserving freshness: older wines are continually rejuvenated, gaining nuance without losing vitality.
Color: deep gold with slightly coppery highlights. Fine, persistent bubbles.
Nose: floral and captivating, with notes of honeysuckle, linden blossom, and delicate hints of toast. As it opens, aromas of red berries and grapefruit emerge, along with soft spices.
Palate: lively and creamy on the attack, revealing the Pinot Noir’s fine vinosity, again with red fruit (raspberry, redcurrant). Well-structured mid-palate. The finish is long and delicious, with brioche notes.
Pairing: ideal with Perles de l’Impératrice oysters.
Comment: a gastronomic cuvée.
