Sparkling reunion at the town hall of Reims

08/12/2021
Champagne tasting

Two years ... two years that SommelierS International had not been able to do, due to the sanitary context, its traditional winefair in Champagne. And what better way for these reunions between exhibitors and tasters than to meet in the sumptuous lounges of the town hall of Reims. Here bubbles, sparkling colors, fun and sharing were at the rendezvous.

During the event, each of us was able to see the importance and the pleasure of meeting up during moments when exchanges and good humor were in order, like the renowned sommeliers present that day: Julie Dupouy , Best Sommelier of Ireland 2018, Mattia Antonio Cianca, Best Sommelier of Australia 2017 and Italy 2019, Julia Scavo, Best Sommelier of Romania 2018, or Fabrice Sommier, one of the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France sommellerie 2007.

Also, the hundred tasters, supported by the associations of regional sommeliers (Haut-de-France, Burgundy and Champagne), sommeliers, wine merchants, importers, or even influencers from all over France, welcomed the emergence of new winegrowers, who came to talk about their wines with passion. The risk-taking of the great Champagne houses, always on the lookout for new ideas, have also been very successful. Because, as Fabrice Sommier points out:

“We realized that we could not speak of champagnes but of Champagne wines, with an extraordinary diversity, between the houses, the terroirs, the blends ...”
A diversity today which makes the great richness of the Champagne region, which those present were able to understand through the 35 stands visited.

The vocation of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne is twofold: to defend and preserve the interests of the Champagne vineyards, while supporting the winegrowers in the complexity of the management of their vineyard. Professional union, its bodies are made up of winegrowers elected by the representatives of the winegrowers of the wine-growing municipalities.
