Champagne Jacques Chaput,
Genius and bubbles... Quality, tradition and consistency are the values upheld
by the Jacques Chaput brand. Jack Chaput,
the youngest son, has returned breathing
inspired genius into the family estate.. Jacques Chaput Jacques Chaput

"For eight generations there has always been at least one wine-grower in the Chaput family. Juste Chaput was a wine grower in Fravaux. He was born in 1736. It was my father, Jacques, who in the fifties founded the domain and began producing champagne. Following his death in 1983, my mother took over the business with the help of my older brother," explains Jack Chaput, who returned in January 2007.

The wine exploitation, which covers 21 hectare, of which 14 belong to the family, is located in the vineyards of the Cote des Bar, "the Bar sur Aubois area, on the right bank," as he likes to say. "I got this classification from a Master of Wine I met in London," says the grower. It’s very true: here, the soil is clay-limestone, there is good exposure for the ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes and the slopes are very steep. The finesse combined with the roundness and vinosity of the wines that are produced here is characteristic of the region. This is in contrast to the Pinot Noirs of the left bank which are more robust, full bodied but also sometimes "heavier," adds Jack Chaput. The wines of the Côte des Bars are indeed increasingly sought after in both France and abroad. There is undoubtedly a micro-climate associated with a micro-terroir. "When I arrived, 60% of our champagnes were sold to mass-market retailers,” continues Jack Chaput.
Today, this market represents only 20%. I want to improve the reputation of our brand. I will put in whatever time is necessary, but what really counts is the quality of our wines. The rest will follow." In just two years, Jacky's remarkable achievement has been to bring an amazing new dynamism to the brand combined with top quality wines. Success is already knocking at the door. The luxury American shipping company Regent Seven Seas Cruises along with Astor Wines (NY) have both selected their champagnes. "I am in no hurry,” he is keen to point out. His idea is to revamp the range of champagnes using a selection of parcels to produce champagnes with a strong identity. "I want to be ready to launch a Blanc de noir non dosage in 2010.” A bold challenge, but one that Jack Chaput is confident of achieving..

La Salamandre

The domain Chaput has currently 14 hectares of vines planted mainly with pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meuniere grapes. The grape production is kept and worked in spacious premises that can accommodate the latest techniques, to ensure a champagne that is made under optimal conditions. Several cuvées have been chosen several years running for inclusion in the Hachette wine guide..

Cuvée Jacques CHAPUT Grande réserve
«La Salamandre»

The salamander, as in the name of the brand’s jewel in the crown, was the royal emblem used by François 1st along with the motto “Nutrisco et extingo” (I feed the good fire and put out the bad). The salamander is also linked to Louis XIV’s motto, “nee pluribus impar” (not equal to others, superior to all, the sum of all things!) This grande réserve is the culmination of several years’ work, carefully selecting the cuvées to be aged in the cellar. The finished product is a subtle marriage of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. A score of 83/100 was awarded by the “Wine Guide new edition 2010”.
A “royal” cuvée that will surprise you..

Cuvée Jacques CHAPUT
Brut Tradition

A wonderful blend of 80% Pinot noir and 20% chardonnay aged in the cellar for 30 months. It is the pinot noir from this distinctive terroir that allows the champagne to develop aromas of white flowers and flavors of crystallised fruit.
An intensely fruit-driven champagne with good length in mouth that will amaze you, whether drunk as an aperitif or to accompany white meat.
The Cuvée Jacques Chaput Brut Tradition has been awarded two stars in the Hachette Guide 2010.
