They first came together out of a need to produce “quality”. In 1962, 3 winemakers built a cooperative at “de l'AUCHE” in Janvry, about 12 km from Reims. The brand “Champagne de l’Auche” was created in 1970. Its values, still relevant today, focused on Authenticity, Expression of the Terroir and Quality. The Cuvée Brut Sélection (85% Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir) from the Petite Montagne de Reims, the Massif de Saint Thierry and the Vallée de l'Ardre terroirs is their flagship wine. Today, there are 70 members of the cooperative, representing 120 hectares over 45 communes. “The creation of the “Champagne Prestige des Sacres” brand revitalized existing marketing. The name is linked to the history of our region and of our town,” states Yves Auguste, President of the cooperative. He contemplates the vineyard from his office. “We are close to Reims Cathedral which we can see from upstairs and when we work in the vines we have the same view,” he continues. “The reference to the coronation of the kings of France makes sense.”
Champagne Prestige des Sacres is experiencing strong growth. 60% of the cooperative's sales are for this brand and increasingly for export. The 400000 bottles produced annually are beginning to be talked about. Yves Auguste intends to support this development despite legitimate reticence due to the present conjuncture. From the vine, where the collective consciousness is focused on production techniques that are respectful of the environment, to the tasting cellar, which will soon become a place to welcome and talk with customers, changes are taking place. With all the many awards won by Champagnes de l’Auche and Prestige des Sacres over the past decades, they deserved a showcase allowing them to come to the forefront of brands that matter, between tradition and modernity.
