Just a few steps from Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the village of Prissey, Domaine Machard de Gramont is run by Arnaud Machard de Gramont alongside his sons, Alban and Alexis. The estate spans around 20 hectares across nearly 50 kilometers, stretching from the southern outskirts of Dijon down to the edges of Puligny-Montrachet. In the estate’s 19th-century vaulted cellars, the wines reflect the rich diversity of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, with flagship appellations such as Pommard, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, Chorey-lès-Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Puligny-Montrachet.
Sourced from a terroir located at the edge of Vosne-Romanée, the cuvée Les Damodes Premier Cru 2023, made from 100% Pinot Noir, reveals great elegance and depth. The fine gravel soils lend the wine a silky texture, combining finesse with layered intensity. Hand-harvested and carefully sorted, the grapes are vinified in wooden vats with a gentle extraction approach. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, completing the subtle expression of this emblematic Climat.
Color: deep ruby with purple highlights. Bright and dense.
Nose: opens gracefully with aromas of fresh red berries (redcurrant, raspberry) and black cherry. Delicate floral notes, typical of Les Damodes, emerge, violet and dried rose in particular. Upon aeration, hints of sweet spice and subtle oak develop.
Palate: smooth and elegant on the attack, with lovely freshness balancing ripe fruit. The tannins are present yet perfectly integrated, offering a velvety mouthfeel and a mineral backbone that adds length.
Pairing: truffle risotto.
Comment: a wine with a refined structure and elegant precision.
